  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
Rob and I had the pleasure of being aboard a 53 MY today (Thanks to Paul --with Gulf Coast Hatteras) For the most part I think it will fit our plans and have enough space that we can actually live on it without having to step on each other. However I would really like to have a bathtub. I know it can be done -- I have seen other Hatteras (PICTURES) with a Jacuzzi -- However My question is how hard is the conversion--What I had in mind is to remove one of the potties (from the walk thru Bath) and install the Jacuzzi -- you would already have the drain < From removing the pottie> or am I in totally left field

You may not get a lot of replies to this inquiry as I suspect it's not a popular conversion. First, a bath tub will use quite a bit of your fresh water supply just to use it once. Unless, you're only using it at the dock or unless you have a decent watermaker that you use a lot, you be using a substantial amount of your precious fresh water supply. When you run out of water...time to go home.

We have a large bathtub in the master - original Hatteras design, and I took the spout off and capped off the supply pipe for filling the tub. Now, it's just a big shower. I would have hated for the first person up in the morning to use all of the hot water and a good chunk of the fresh water supply for a bath, leaving the other 7 people on board with cold showers.

Just something to consider...

Have Yachtsman Willie design it for you. I bet he could. Why not a tub? Maybe just use it at the dock or get a water maker.... The one thing I miss most living aboard is a hot tub to soak in....

Hope I didnt just lose my man card....

Not with me buddy; not with me! That ranks right up there with a 32vdc oil change pump. (?). ws

Well in defence of Brenda my Partner in life for my whole life:Shes worked her ass off.She has some or alot of joint issues. The Big "A" word.As we have searched the internet fo ideas she saw a Hatt with a tub.So why not!!!We both have come along way and still have alot to learn. If she wants it I'll try and make it happen-----Robby

Do you want a hottub that you leave full of water or a bathtub with jets?

If you want a hottub, how bout one of them "portable" units. They are pretty slick.

You had a man card? :D

I'll admit I've thought about combining the two adjoining heads on my 58 and replacing the two shower stalls with a tub which would be accessible from either end. It would be along the same line as the his and her's heads I've seen in the master of a 70CPMY.

No doubt I'd still keep a shower over the tub (in the middle), but it would be a nice option IMO, especially for anybody like myself with a young child. Never thought about a Jaccuzi-type tub, but that might be nice too.

Consider putting a 2 person "soft-side" tub up on the flybridge (where most people put their whalers). That's what we were planning on doing before I gotr the job in Belize. This is the oen we were going to put up there:

It's a Softub 140. Compact, room for 2, you dont have to fill/refill every time you use it (drain only when taking the boat out). Easy to care for (1/2 cup of bleach a day to chlorinate it), and costs very little to keep heated. Softub can be kept at 104°F and used every day, for 20 minutes, at an average cost of only $10 a month. I know I sound like a salesman, but I am NOT affiliated with them in any way...i just want one for out boat... the 140 (140gallon) 2-person one would fit perfectly up there...
