  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' MOTOR YACHT (1984 - 1987)
I'm installing an inverter with a bank of golf cart batteries. I'm undecided on which battery to purchase. I ran into a Duracell, made by East Penn Manufacturing. I heard they also make Deka, with is supposed to be an upper end battery. Anyway, It's 230 amp hour capacity and the guy said it was real heavy. He said it was one of the heaviest he's seen. 64 lbs to be exact. I googled them but couldnt find any information about them. At 64 lbs they are heavier than the Trojan T105 @62lbs. The weight is kinda hard to find. Seems like they dont want you to campare. Has anyone heard anything good or bad about these batteries? I can get them for $105.00. I was thinking that was a pretty good price. Thanks for the input.

Actually I believe they are made in USA by Johnson Controls, which is fine too if so. Sam's Club sells these for $89, for the EGC@ and $80 for the GC2 FYI.

Have about three friend that have put these in from Sam's oldest set about 3-4 years now, all good reports and hard to beat that price!

No experience with Duracell beyond flashlights, but I've had great luck with Deka batteries, for inverter banks as well as starting/house.

I just got a quote from Sam's for the Duracell (East Penn) 230 amp hr for $88 plus tax and $5.00 core charge which I dont have any. The RV (camping community) people seem to like them. Anyway George I'm heading your way in the middle of June. We will come up from Southport, then Morehead, Newbern, then back to beaufort, then to Cape Lookout and stay on the hook in the bight. Maybe we can get together.

Deka/East Penn is one of the few companies that is actually a manufacturer. Most batteries are rebranded. My local distrubutor carries them so that's what I have in most of my vehicles. I haven't had any quality problems with them.
