  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
61' COCKPIT MY (1981 - 1985)
I've got three non-functional Datamarine gauges I'd like to remove from my helm overhead. I've removed the screws from the back perimeter but I still can't figure out how to actually remove the gauges. They spin in the hole but I'll be danged if I can figure out how to separate the front from the back.

Any suggestions?

If I remember correctly, that was an under dash ring you removed the screws from. That ring may now un-screw off of the display body (case).
I have similar displays in my shop. I'll pull one down and look closer at it.

I had removed my dead Datamarines from the upper helm. Yes, there's a locking ring on the back that can be a real challenge to get loose if it's tight quarters. I got lucky with mine, and the locking rings came free easily.

If anybody is in need, I have a few usable repeaters in my shop,,, somewhere..

Sorry for the delayed response - for some reason I'm not getting notified of replies. I have pretty good access to these gauges - they're in the overhead above the pilothouse wheel. I can sit up on the dash and easily reach into the overhead to work. Sounds like I just need to remove all the screws I can find on the backside, and then try to unscrew it from the back? Does that sound about right?

Worst case I can use a multitool and cut them out, wood and all - I'm planning to install a new wood face to the panel anyway.

There is a round metal ring around the back side of the housing that prevents the gauge from coming out towards you. The ring has very small allen head screws around the side of that metal ring that have to come out. Then the ring slips down and you pull the gauge out.

Thanks. I'll have to cram my head into the compartment and do a closer inspection.

My Datamarine heads didn't have the allen screws - just the threaded locking collar. Fingers crossed you share my luck.

Thanks. Next time I get a helper aboard I'll have her hold the outside while I try to unscrew from inside. My arms ain't long enough to do both jobs.

I used duck tape across the outside (face) and it held it so I could unscrew it... Just a thought.
