This is in regards to a previous thread I had about low oil pressure on my 454's....
I have accquired 2 new mechanical oil pressure gauges and I am planning on installing them next weekend. My question for you guys is how do I do the install them so that both gauges (mechanical and electric) are operational at the same time? I'm going to leave the electric one in the dash on the bridge and mount the mechanical in the engine room.
Do I just make a pipe thread "T" and install it into the existing electric spot and then mount one pick up on either end? Will that cause a problem or fake readings? Or is there another place on the block I can tap into for the mechanical one and leave the electric one alone?

Thanks in advance......

Either a T or seperate taps on the oil filter housing will work. There 2 or 3 there. Temp senders are another issue. ws

They make a "machined" tee and "close nipples" that will be stronger than pipe fittings. They should have them at an auto parts store.

Actually, they should be steel... not even cast iron! ws

Keep any nipples SHORT...otherwise normal engine vibration can fatigue and break them.

Thanks for the replies.....So it's safe to say that using a short "T" will work fine and that it will not create any issues or fake readings? Right?

yes, that's a common arrangement..ok for transmissions too.

If you are smart you will use a steel tee, not a pipe tee, made of brass, or copper, those metals will not stand up to vibrations. Listen to the people that are the mechanics they know what is best. A quality high perfermance shop should have what you need, ie. what Willy said.
