  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
39' CONVERTIBLE (1994 - 1997)
How is the Anchor windlass intended to be use?

I have a ‘94 convertible. The galley made windlass just has a capstan with no chain gypsy. The anchor has 100 feet of chain before the Line. How did hatteras intend for the windless to be used to pull the anchor? Do people just wrap the chain around the capstan? It seems to slip. I have been using a buoy to pull the anchor instead of the windless. Thanks.

If no wildcat, then it was not designed for more than a short chain lead. Someone added that extra chain. The fix is to send the unit to Galleymaid. They will rebuild it with a longer shaft to accommodate a wildcat.
