Hi All,

Awesome !!!! Not only as a an incredible piece of documentary film, but also as a quintessential moment capturing the world "as it was" in the 60's and as an example of an impassioned businessman building a dream supported by free enterprise at it's best.

Also a look into a time when the world was so very different, before the micro processor and the Internet, when your kids could play outside, and you didn't lock your doors, and people knew their neighbors, but at the same time a world on the cusp of radical change and impending doom (Woodstock, civil rights, Cuba, Vietnam etc).

Randy, thank you for sharing this, seeing our beloved Hatts in actual production, and seeing the men and women who brought them to life was amazing.

Ditto to what Gene said. Really cool. Bill

Thanks Randy that was great

Very cool. Love those shots of that 50MY in production. Is that yours Jim (Grove)?

I am sure that is Fanfare. The photos starting at 5:47 and 6:34 are definitely a 50MY and, since it is white, must surely be she. I would recognize her anywhere by her neatly wired electrical panel alone.

I am also struck by the workmen's Tyvec suits and use of respirators.

Great look at remarkable time.

Notice the "Monroe Matic" (or Friden) mechanical calculator around 45 seconds in. The OSHA folks would go crazy, (no resirators, safety glasses, etc.). The plant was very clean, and the workers were not dressed like slobs. Interesting to see a glimpse of life and times that built great boats - you can see the pride in the workforce and it shows in the results of their efforts.

Thanks Randy.

I thought without unions and regulators everybody died?

I guess all of you didn't buy the $15 cd with that one and a few other video's from that time

Hey Derek how about this for timing ;)

You're welcome, Dan.

Apparently Hatteras hadn't purchased the $15 CD either. This from their Facebook page where they listed the link...

"One of our friends recently send this link to us. It is a wonderful look the early years at the High Point facility when Hatteras was in its infancy."

As for the timing comment to Derek, maybe you can enlighten us. Oh yeah, a link to the CD would be nice too. :p

Oh, and to everyone who offered their thanks, you're welcome! :D

Dan and I were just talking about the videos yesterday. The film maker worked at Hatteras in the early days and was interested in film so he started making promotional videos of the boats. Eventually he went on to Hollywood and a career in the movie industry. About a year or two ago he compiled his videos and produced a DVD of them that he made available here. Hopefully quite a few of us bought them. They may still be available.

His contact information is in the thread:

Randy should remember this since he was a big particiapnt in the thread. But they say the second thing to go is the memory.

Looks like I'm not the only one with memory problems if that 2 year old post was of the same footage. Can't tell now since the video was removed. So what's the first thing to go? I can't remember...

They're available from SAM's here too. Click on "Links Articles,& Videos" in the upper left corner of this site.

Which is why it is FUNNY that Hatteras did not know about this!
Randy on the other hand we expect nothing less

And yes that Clip was part of it!

I'm still waiting for somebody to tell me the first thing to go as I may be going about this in the wrong order.

Well what are you missing :D

Just give us the short list

What am I missing? I forgot. Seems I used to have a cat and a Buick, but not any more...

you're missing one engine, but we all know where that went. now what were you saying, i forgot the begining of the conversation.

I still have that old dishwasher on my 50 MY. It works, bit the pan is rotted out and leaking a little, so it will be more cabinet space in the galley redo.
