Gauge instrument panels

The plastic panels my flybridge gauges are mounted on are chipped, cracked and need to be replaced. I was think of using aluminum rather than plastic. Does anyone see a downside with that?

They are easy to duplicate in aluminum. If you have "Greenlee Punches" available to punch out the instrument holes the job is much easier. The olny problem is labeling the gages etc.
