"Galley" Window replacement

We recently had a window crack and it needs replacement. What is the best way to replace a glass pane on the "Galley" windows? I got a quote from lookout glass for $2200 per side for as fixed windows and I was hoping to find a more cost effective fix for these windows such as just replacing the pane and perhaps the sliders.

We have replaced 6 sliding windows this year. Remove the old glass and take it to a glazier. You will need standard laminated glass and the colour should be standard. We then used sunlight film which is similar but not exact. Cost was US$140 complete.

My local glass guy cut and polished the edges for next to nothing. It's standard industrial building glass called PPG Solex Green. Go to harbor freight and buy glass suction cups.. slide the glass to the middle and lift up and bottom out.. easy peazy.. since yours is the inside pane, you'll have to do the outside pane first

We replaces all the glass on our YF ourselves, it really isn’t difficult just time consuming and messy. Replaced it with solex ppg glass. Our glass company smoothed the edges to match the original glass. $2200 is outrageous.

Took about 40 hours for entire project, ie 2 windows over galley, 8 salon, 6 helm. Once the frames were off and the shims removed, the glass removal is a bit difficult because the original Hatteras sealer holds tight. Then remove old sealant from outer and inner frames, prep, apply new sealant (i believe we used 4200) insert glass, shims, outer frame...(we also repainted outer frames)......total cost appx $600 materials

First remove the stop block at the top. Its held in with one screw. Next remove the end trim pieces off of the individual panes. These are the metal extrusions stuck on the edge. Next slide the glass to the middle and lift up and out. No need for suction cups as you can grab both sides to lift it. Take the glass to a glass company for them to use as a pattern and have them cut you new glass.

While you have them out, clean the track and replace the fuzzies and plastic strips. You can buy them from Sams Marine.

If you're not comfortable doing all of this, the glass company will do it and you'll still have next to nothing into it compared to most boat repairs.

MVC, the sliders are just as simple as Sky describes seriously. It’s worth a try vs spending $$$$, Estimates of $2200 per side is just outrageous, if you aren’t able to do it yourself get other estimates, heck i bet you could find a member willing to fly down and do it for $4400 LOL

Was the $2,200 quote for new fiberglass window frames or just for replacement glass for your current aluminum frames???

A friend of mine with a 53 footer took out every window in his salon and the front windows. He sent them out and had all new frames made with new glass and paid $9000. Somebody’s getting rich on you.

I had Waterway Systems make the frames for trunk cabin windows for our 61 Hatteras , $900 ea. I think and I supplied the materials. I then had them “hard” anodized at CMF metal finishing in Ft. Lauderdale. Then they were painted to match the original bronze anodizing. They have held up very well.

Lookout quoted us $22,000 for the 7 salon windows on our 46C. This was for non sliding glass and fiberglass frames.

I replaced all 6 port/stbd side salon windows, remove, re-bed and reseal original frames, new felt, etc. Center sliders...tinted safety glass. With installation I came out at $6300. The glass shipped from a supplier my contractor arranged in California somewhere. First set arrived cracked, second set was oversized and had to be re-cut locally, (Galveston area).
