Does anyone have any experience using a Fumoto valve to replace their oil drain plug on a DDC, or any marine diesel for that matter ?

I don't personally but know of several people who use them. Can't see anything wrong with the idea though I would question putting one on a car, where they seem to be most popular due to the possibility of reduced ground clearance depending on the oil pan's position. However, if you have or want to install a changing pump you won't want/need the valve.

Got one on my 4Runner, one on my Sequoia and one on my F250 Powerstroke Diesel. They are great! No tools needed to drain oil. Only complaint would be that the drain hole is a bit small and it takes longer for the oil to drain.

Thanks for feedback. Only negative I've noted concerns off road vehicles and hopefully my 53MY won't be in that situation.

Larry, do you have an oil changer on your boat? As I commented earlier, there is really no reason to put one of these valve on a 53MY unless you do not have an oil changer. If you don't have an oil changer, I'd recommend one; they make oil changing almost a non event as long as you have/get one that can pump cold oil (new oil back into the motor).

Mine had trouble with cold oil but I found the problem was not the pump per se, it was that hose used for pumping oil back into the engine was too small. One size larger ID hose/fitting took care of the problem.

Mike,

Don't have an oil changer and would certainly like one. Unfortunately I have several projects ahead of installing an oil changer so the Fumoto valve is a fill in.
