Hatteras Model
41' DOUBLE CABIN (1962 - 1965)
I do not have a good spot to hang my lcd off of a wall, so it is on a flat surface. I don't want it to fall if I hit any big waves, so I am trying to come up with a solution to fix the base to the table in a neat fashion. (Drilling screws through the base would probably not look so nice...)

Any ideas?

Also, I loose the signal everythime some one drives by. I am guessing that the antenna moves, and it looses the signal for 2 seconds. Does anyone else experience the same?

In my saloon, I have 5 places I could mount a flat screen...
Am just waiting for my existing TV to go bad.
In the 43', I can mount it over the front head, on the wall against the front head, on top of the cabinet over the Refrig, against the wall behind the refrig or on the back wall of the saloon.
All are easily thru bolted. I see a 32" or (better yet) a 36". I already have surround sound installed. But my 20" TV is way too good to just replace...
I have Direct TV and only lose signal when a severe storm comes by.
We do plan on installing smaller Flat screens in the two staterooms as the grandkids have requested so.........

Look at the bottom of your TV base. Find 4 places you can epoxy regular nuts or 'T nuts" (for holding bolts into wood) to receive bolts screwed up from below your table surface. This is of course for a table where the bolt heads would not be seen. Epoxy them flat with the bottom of the base.
After you cement the 4 nuts/T-nuts in place, make a template to use for drilling your bolt holes. Yes, of course keep your template in the correct orientation up/down left/right, etc. Then use allen head bolts, cut to the correct length, to secure your TV to your table.

I have a 20" flat screen mounted to my bar with heavy duty Velcro, so far so good!

The TV that was on the boat when we bought her also was "velcrod" by the PO. They did the Great Circle Loop and went thru some nasty storms and the TV never moved. And it was a full size unit, not the neat new ones out now

Ak, I would not do it that way - you're asking for it. Those stands are not made to take significant loads except straight downward and in heavy seas could break.

I would instead make up something fairly heavy-duty out of either metal or wood that will screw into the VESA screws in the back of the panel and mount to the surface where the TV is going to be. These are on a standard grid-pattern on all modern LCD and other flat-panel TVs, and ARE designed to take significant load as they are directly part of the TV's internal framing.

You definitely don't want to have heavy seas turn your nice set into a smashed bunch of plastic.

There are table top and desk stands that use the VESA pattern to mount to flat surfaces. I recommend using one that will hold your set as its lightest load so there is plenty of headroom for KE from motion. If the set is 5 lbs get one that can hold 15.

Be careful of cheap mounts. You get what you pay for and steel is not cheap.

If you get me the make and model I can get some suggestions for you. FWIW I sell the mounts along with flat panels and projectors for a living so I have done it once or twice before.

I used museum putty to hold a small lcd to the counter in the aft stateroom. No issues after six thousand miles on the AICW.

I'm in the process of mounting a new 37" LCD Samsung right now. I think the poster who said the plastic base is insufficent is correct. I'm mounting it in my 43 MY above the forward head in front of the windshield. I am using a wall mounted VESA bracket ( about $ 125) connected to a 2' high by 3" x 3" mahogony post on a 6" square base. I will also screw the base of the TV with 2" washers into the top surface. The TV weighs 40lbs but it is top heavy and fragile. I'm hoping the wall mount/post will hold most of the load and the base screws will help. I plan on finishing it this week. The VESA wall mount systems are pretty sturdy. I also use Direct TV with the dish attached to the piling and a Shakespeare unit for travel. So far so good, but the Direct TV is not as clear as my cable at home. My question is how deep can I screw into the vinyl flat surface under the windshield?

Scott,

I have a Samsung Series 5, 550 37" LCD that uses the 200 x 200 VESA mount. I'd like to talk to you about a ready made system that is robust enough for our use that I can screw into the top of that area in front of the windshield. The TV with the stand weighs 40 lbs.
