Well, thought I would modernize the 12V DC lighting system in the engine room with LEDs. I used a couple of sets of the low-profile, fully encapsulated, accent type lights in bright white. I placed them at strategic locations such as facing the fuse panel, battery switches, gage panel, Racor filters, etc.

On the pads where the old 12V overhead fixtures had been mounted, I strung four of the lights together to make brighter spot lights above the A/C units, intake strainers, and water pumps.

For a couple of months everything was fine. With just the DC lights on it was bright enough to see everything in the room. Then I started noticing that some were not as bright as they had been. Over the last several months they have become pretty much useless. The pictures make them look bright, but in actuality the wafers that are still working are a dull dim yellow. I can only guess that these lights were not meant to be placed in areas with high ambient temps like an engine room.
I'm looking for recommendations on what I should replace them with. Is the heat going to be a problem for any LED lights installed in the engine room?
Thanks
