  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
While we were in Stiuart, a friend gave us a pair of these that they used to use when they had boats.

These things work really well. They are very clear and full duplex. Much better than walkie talkies. I am going to add a third headset, so that all three of us can be connected while docking. They also have a pretty long range. My son had to walk away from the marina, about 1/4 mile, before we lost connection. And that was on the board walk at Sunset Bay, past the tunnel under the highway and train tracks. Anyways, I am sure a few here have already found these or something like them.

I sell them. They're a cool toy but not a professional unit like we use in broadcast television production.

Then again a good wireless for tv is about $1800 per channel.

Also popular in the RV world where your spotter (if you need one) can talk to you when backing into camping spaces etc. Friends have a set and refer to them as the "marriage savers".;)

We have a set of those and they are terrific, just used them yesterday to give helm commands to my wife while pulling the anchor after 4 days on the hook. Some people call them marriage savers. John

My wife and I have been using the Eartec product for years. They are excellent and indeed a "Marriage Saver". Also, Eartec is very responsive should one need to be repaired.

Which type of headphone is best?

Which type of headphone is best?

If you mean of the Eartech versions, I like the ones with only one ear piece (UL2S). That way, you can still hear everything else. I found that it sounded like the other person was right there. The UL2D has two ear pieces. They also carry industrial versions that cost 3x as much. And they carry a version that just goes around your neck, like sport headphones. I like having the cup that covers the ear.

We just purchased a four unit set, super excited to test them

I like the single headpiece also for the same reason stated. They make anchoring so simple with no drama that you really piss off the other boats in an anchorage that are used to watching other people screw up when anchoring

Man, some of you guys got REALLY deep pockets! I'm just a poor boy from Detroit that can barely afford gas money home at night! LOL! A four person system is $735.00 on Amazon!

I don't remember differential equations, linear algebra or the specifics of mechanics of materials but the one thing I DO remember from engineering school is a professor telling me "Son, there's always more than one way to skin a cat!".

With that in mind I bought two Baofeng BF-F8 radios as an alternative with separate corded microphone speakers. Whole set up cost less than $100.00 and I've got the added benefit of communicating over UHF, VHF and family channels. Only issue is they put out five watts which is technically illegal for marine channels but only use it for monitoring on those frequencies anyway. Otherwise perfectly legal on family channels which is what we use for onboard communication.

Would love to have Eartecs but the cost plus likelihood somebody on my crew is going to drop one into Davy Jone's locker prevents me from doing so.
