  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
I'm a new owner (bought late last year) and just hooked my 53MY to dockside water for the first time.

I was pleased with the results until I heard a waterfall under the galley floor and the generator room bilge turned on. A quick look under the floor and I saw the problem. What appears to be a non oem hose (clear braided) coming from the starboard side of the generator room that seemingly randomly terminates. Water was flowing from it full force.

Am I right to assume a former owner got into the plumbing and tapped into the dockside water line for some reason? Is there some sort of a check valve stuck open? The standard water tank system seems to work fine (well, the former owner put in a 24v pump, but that's for another thread!).

Any ideas?

TIA

Very strange that it only happens on the dock water. Trace the open hose to its source and buy a cap or a plug.

If the dockside water supply hose came off, maybe that's it? Check your dockside water input T which is normally copper tubing on the outboard wall of the SB engine room. There is also a crossover from the port dock water inlet. There is usually a pressure reducing bell housing and the pipe or hose that comes out of that goes into the boat's pressure water lines after the pumps and captive air tank. Water pressure from the dock keeps the tank's pumps from going on. The pump(s) and check valve keep the dock water from backfilling the tanks.
