  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' CONVERTBLE-Series I (1964 - 1971)
We just picked up 4 8 volt DEKA marine 819 batteries to fire up a 32 volt Hatt but the sale fell through. These are the 24" ones that fit perfectly in the battery boxes. Now we have a deal for anyone in the area. call me and lets make a deal. 407-739-5450.

Boatsb,

Would those batteries be same as 8v195? I sent a pm. Thanks...

NO. DEKA is having lots of problems with the 8V195's

8V195's are only 19" long. These are 24 and were the original size in may of the 32 volt Hatts. They are bigger and heavier too.

I'd be curious as to what problems Deka is having with 8v195s. They are much more of a starting battery, with high CCA, so do very well as my starboard bank, which just starts the starboard engine and powers the 12 point monitor system.

The 819 is more of a deep cycle, dual purpose, more appropriate for the house bank, that's why they cost much more. I replaced mine recently with the expensive Rolls 8HHG that fits in the Hatteras box. They are in turn much heavier than the 819, but so far I am underwhelmed by their performance, perhaps the stuff of another thread. If I could do it over again, I'd do the 819s and saved about $650 vs the Rolls., maybe more if this deal were around.

According to the deka dealer the 8V195's are failing in about a year and a half and the manufacturer has no explanation as of yet. They strongly suggested the 819's because of this.

Had an 8v195 fail in a year and one half this summer--it took down my entire house bank and failed, of course, the night before our annual summer cruise. I was not pleased. I had to swap one good one from the starting bank to create a usable house bank and parallel to get the engines started until I could find a replacement. Not the way to start a cruise with the family.

Seems to reinforce their inadequacy as a house bank; they were never a consideration for mine. I am about 6 months into my set, used fairly consistently, so we'll see. They spin the engines faster than the 819s did in their prime.

Maybe MikeP will chime in, I think he has been powering a house bank with 8v195s.

Scott- PM sent.
