  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
61' MOTOR YACHT (1980 - 1985)
Has anyone upgraded their cruisair controls to the newer style LED based control head from the three knob style older mechanical controls? We were quoted quite a bit of money for this upgrade and I'm wondering if its something that we can do without a lot of work.

You need to upgrade to the controller and the panel. It's not just the 3 knob for a different panel.

I put smxii controls on one of my units years ago. You need to know how to wire in the controller box.

Tropical marine air in ft lauderdale has the digetial fx controls same wiring i did one of mine and was easy to wire

Is it safe to say that as part of the upgrade process we would need to change the control box to control head wiring? That will be a fun project. ;)

I had this done on mine- still have the old units, but with (I think) SMX controls. One of the best things I ever did for my boat.

I did the same as Sky 10 years ago. Never been an issue since.

It s an easy update and worth every penny. I had done my boat years ago and lover it.

Forgot the brand I had, there is a control board in a metal box and a digital display. The control board just received power from the breaker and sends power to the compressor and to the blower.

How many are you replacing?

I recently replaced the remotes condensor system with a chiller system. I have 4 sets of controls I've been meaning to sell

I installed Coastal Climate Control FX 1 units on my boat about 12 years ago and no problems... I did have one unit fail about 2 years later and when I called the company, they sent me a new unit...NO charge. Can't beat that. No problems since.

BTW look on this forum under for sale or buy...Pascal is selling 3 units at a crazy low price...snatch them up....

We had 3 split units retrofitted with the SMX controls 15 years ago.
The control boxes are mounted next to the air handlers in the bottom of closets and the thermostats are on nearby walls.
I'm thinking we didn't have to run any additional wires to the compressors, but not totally sure.
Great upgrade, if the newer controls from MicroAire will work with the older units it would even be better.

I have 7 systems....but at 500$ a pop I am thinking of only doing a couple. PM me. I may be interested in what you have.

That would be ideal if I didn't have to run wiring down. The Salon unit is probably a 100 foot wire run down to the generator compartment where the compressors are and it would be a nightmare! :)
