Cockpit Freezer

When we purchased our boat the cockpit freezer did not work. The unit is rusted into a pile of crap. I need to buy a new one, and i would like to have some suggestions as to a brand. Have any of you had to do this? It was suggested to me to change the plate out to a new one. I am not knoledgable in the subject, so any help would be apreciated.

I spent about $700 having mine rebuilt. It lasted about one canyon trip. And of course the guarantee is about as good as the yahoo who "fixed" it. I too would love to find a reasonable replacement.

Just replaced the condensing unit on mine. Cost of the condensing unit was $500. The labor to do the work and evacuate the old system was about $500. No bargain but it works.

Pat, the manufacturer on the mechanicals of my bait freezer (45c SerII) was Frigibar. Mine, too, was shot when I got it. It was painting time anyway, so I removed the whole box and sent it out to them to rehab. Pretty reasonable. And they slapped their new compressor unit in the ER for practically no install fee. They're in Miami.

Only complaint I have is that the little fan that cools the CU makes a little noise in the ER, but who really cares.

If you take out the old unit Granger should be able to find a unit that uses the newer gases. Then have an AC guy install it. That R12 refill will cost more than a new unit....

It's time to install new cockpit freezer plates and compressor in the engine room. I've contacted Nova kool price seems right and the unit only uses about 2 amps for the small freezer.

Anybody have any experience with these guys?
