Hatteras Model
38' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1987 - 1991)
Unfortunately I had a situation with my next slip neighbor. His outrigger, Rupp triple spreader, bent above the top anchor for the top spreader (final section).
We tried to make it straight but it broke. The spreader wires and their attachments are intact. Broke above the spreaders.
Can it be repaired, can we buy the top section and put it back in?

Every part on a Rupp rigger can be replaced. Call Rupp in stuart and give them the rigger number found on the tag at the base of the pole.

Yes, as noted, but be aware that Rupp has in the past shipped the wrong piece. You want not only the part number off the plate but in addition take GOOD measurements and confirm.

Trust me on this - I bought a set of cables and a couple of spreader arms from them to refurb mine, and it took twice before they got it right, despite my insistence that what they were telling me was correct for the riggers I had was in fact incorrect (cable lengths, specifically.)

They made it right but my frustration level was off the charts considering that I had told them on the phone that I did not believe they had the correct cables from their lookup off the part numbers on the data plate. They were sure, and they were wrong. :p

A buddy of mine bent one of his and found a guy that can weld aluminum with a TIG welder. The guy made a nice looking collar to cover the bend and then welded it up. Looks pretty good and you really have to look for it to find it. It cost him about 50 bucks and a case of beer!

Any outrigger can be repaired!

That was a bargain.

Of course, you could just make the parts in your garage like I do:

See, easy spreader replacement:

Make sure you get Mike to go with it saves a lot of your own time :)

A boat captain friend of mine told me to repair an outrigger with a mild bend that you should fill the outrigger with sand so that when you try to bend it back it still stay round and not crimp.
I never tried that, has anyone heard of this or tried it?

Thanks for the awesome advise.
The neighbor called Pipe Welders in Miami. As per his conversation with them, the repair would be in the thousands and they recommended going through the insurance, hahahaha!
Rupp sent the part to my house. I should get it tomorrow. I gave them the # on the rigger.
They sent the top section of the rigger for $192. Plus shipping.
Will try to fix it once I get the part.
There is nothing better than consulting with someone with experience......and this forum.
Thanks
