Hatteras Model
54' EXTENDED DECKHOUSE (1989 - 1992)
Looking for brand and power suggestions for a bow and stern thruster for my 1990 54ED. Will go DC, not hydraulic.

Also, anyone have any experience with East Coast Bow Thruster?

Thanks,

I recently did all the research and am planning to add a (bow only) proportional thruster from Sleipner. The E-Vision series makes a synthetic wave out of DC power with an inverter and is very efficient which means lower heat generation and longer run times. I’m planning one model larger (E250 for a 67’ CMY) but will post a link below for one that would probably work for your bow. I’m planning to use Florida Bow Thruster who travel all over to install - they’ve done lots of hatterases and were able to send me pics of the exact install on my model Hatteras.

They have done several installs for customers of mine. Always good, professional results.

Thank you for your comments

Side Power or Vetus... Preference? Seems like from the 2 quotes I received that Side Power is a few dollars less.

At this point I seem to be leaning towards a Sleipner E210 24V Bow Thruster with Variable speed control.
Probably will have New England Thruster do the job.
Any thoughts?
Is the Variable speed control worth it?
I like the Sleipner since it has 2 props. From what I have learned it gives you the same amount of thrust either way... Yes?

Just out of curiosity, how long have you had the boat?

No personal experience with Vetus but I ve had Sidepowers a a few boats I ve run. A big plus is that Imtra carries parts for them and their customer service is second to none.

Variable speed is ok but not needed unless you have a really powerful hydraulic thruster.

As to stern thrusters there is just no need for them on a twin. Splitting the gears will move the stern even better than a ST. Never had one, never felt the need for one even on the 116 I run these days.
