53' EXTENDED DECKHOUSE (1983 - 1988)
When I bought my boat there was carpeting on the back deck. I didn't figure on keeping it there since it is exposed to the weather. I thought it would get wet, moldy, and not dry out. But, after trying it, we found it worked out great.

Now, several years later, we are looking to replace it. It has started to fall apart.

The question is, what is the best carpet for this application? I want something that will dry quickly and not hold water.

I would give a call to Snap In Carpet. They are local to New Buffalo Michigan and they have some great outdoor carpet that will breathe. wwwdotsnapincarpet.com

I have seen their stuff. It looks good. I was just wondering what other options are out there.

Sky, we have a polypropylene based, closed loop carpet, sort of astro turf like. Not real soft on bare feet, but doesn't absorb water and dries fast. We have a bluish gray color so it doesn't show dirt. We love it. It came on the boat when we bought it, so I have no idea where it came from.

Sky,

Home Cheapo has a large assortment of polypropylene area rugs, in various sizes, colors and patterns, on line.

Looks great in my aft salon...

I used indoor/outdoor polypropylene in the past and it worked out well. They come with different degrees of resistance to UV. Go for the best.

I just saw some marine carpeting that is made for outdoor use that looks similar to teak and holly flooring. It has brown strips with white lines separating the strips. They offer free samples, so I ordered one to see what it really looks like. I'm report back when it shows up.

Sky,

Pictures please....

Walt
