a buddy of mine had a clawfoot tub painted over the porcelan, for 800.00.... during katrina, the house fell apart, and scratched and chipped the tub. he wants to re paint the tub himself this time. do ya'll think awlgrip, or awlcraft 2000 will work on this? which one do you think is better for this application? thanks for any input. p.s. he will check to see if the previous paint will hold up to the new stuff, per the instructions. bigbill

I refinished 2 clawfoot tub with an epoxy tub refinishing kit i purchased for around $40.00 from Home Depot. 1 was done 4 years ago and held up great. Just be sure when you roller it on not to go over the same spot or it will not finish smooth and the roller will cause the epoxy to bubble.

Awlgrip it's harder also the Awlcraft is not recomended for brushing if that's what he's planning. I did a fiberglas tub with Awlgrip it held up great but was super slipery. You almost have to put a mat down and you can't leave it down because it will cause Awlgrip to blister. As mentioned already a product made for tubs is probably a better choice.

We salvaged our cast iron clawfoot tub post Katrina. It was about the only thing we did salvage and I spent some time with it.

After cleaning, sanding and ospho, I sealed it with 2 part epoxy and painted it with Interlux 2 part polyurethane, which I believe is called Perfection. Used foam rollers and tipped with foam brushes. That was 2 years ago. Also painted outdoors and wore a vapor mask due to hazardous paint fumes. Still looks good, I would use Interlux again.

Vincent
