A buddy of mine who skippers a large PJ motoryacht replaced one of his tenders with a BRIG (the company who makes the Baltic). It was pretty nice and comparable to the Avon in quality. He bought is out of the US though and I'm not sure that they have a dealer in the US. Here is there web site.

We purchased an 8.5 ft Baltik last summer from an internet site. We believe that the craftsmanship is at least as good as any of the 'brand name' inflatables we looked at and it was considerably less expensive. Send me a PM if you have any questions.

Should have asked in my previous note what size Baltik you are looking at. Also, you are asking about Baltik, not "Baltic", correct? BTW, we are selling our 8.5 ft with 4 hp motor so that we can buy something in the 11-13 ft range.

I have a friend who bought the hard bottom Brig also. He has it two years and is very happy with it. It does look well made. He purchased it in Ct and had to pick it up. For some reason it could not be shipped or he didn't want to pay for shipping to NY. I think it came from a Canadian distributor. I can get the info if you like.

thanks guys,

yes it is "baltik". the brig website lists a baltik line but the pictures are all of the brig line. also in the specs it seems to say hypalon is the contruction material, the baltik i'm looking at is not hypalon, 11 ft and doesn't seem to match the brigs model line numbers. it seems there are multiple baltiks out there.

I looked around on the net and found out that "Baltik Boats" are Korean built tenders that are construsted like most of the well know names in the industry. I read some reviews from folks on the west coast that liked them but they have only had them a year or two. The are considerably cheaper due to the fact they built of PVC and not Hypalon. But ther are not that much cheaper than prices for PVC Avons and Zodiacs on the Defender web site. I didn't see where they are producing a RIB. So you are stuck with a wood or inflatable floor and wood transome. Here is site for the company who is selling them.

My personal experience with PVC inflatable is that you need to keep a cover over the tubes to prevent UV breakdown. Most canvas makers can make one for you. If left exposed to the elements it will deteriorate beyond repair. Also, PVC is not a resistant to scratches and chafe.

In the end, it might not be a bad boat for the money... but for my money I'd rather buy one that has a known company that will back up their product.

My general rule is " use Hypalon, not PVC"...from what I have read, the former is considerably more durable...

I was told the same thing when I bought my quicksilver PVC one 7 years ago.
It still is in pretty good condition and was 1/2 the price  .

But I agree 100% with Capt Eric keep it covered but also feel you should cover them all no matter what the mat'l is it just makes sense. I will buy PVC again if it is priced right. Also you can find pre made covers cheaper then having custom made and my cover has held up for 5 years and counting!! Well O.K I might get one more out of the cover it is due :(

i bought the baltik 11' for 700 + 100 shipping. it comes with a carry bag for storage and the normal items. defender has an avon hypalon 11' for 2389.00. if i get 5 years out of it i think i win.

Yes 5 years and you do win and I can tell you my PVC Quicksilver lasted five years and two weeks. The price was right when I bought it. The seem started to leak at the stern end of the tube. I kept it covered when not in use, pretty much most of its life. I think it may have suffered from being deflated and folded up every winter. If I had lots of room I would leave it inflated all year long.

So Dan you are way ahead of the game! Hawaiin songs ringing in your ears yet?

I got a 12' Mariner on sale for about $1,200. They are out of Miami, I got it direct from the importer. If you are looking for a used one I would part with mine for $1,000.
