For 10 boat bucks it sure looks nice.... Only problem is it has gas and eventually if not already, it can bite you in the a$$ because of the ethenol issue.

I must say that the pictures (if they are fairly recent) look very good. Even if the engines are history, it can make a great vacation place to stay on the cheap.

Walt

p.s. Sparky has plenty of experience with that particular model.

Anyone have any thoughts on this one?

I get that the gas engines narrow the field of prospective buyers, but is 10K really where the market is for this boat? If anyone has seen it, I would love to hear your impression.
If I'm not mistaken (and I don't think I am), that boat belongs to an HOF'er who's already posted it on here someplace. As for it being worth only $10K, not a chance.

I'm a bit surprised that the opening bid on a no reserve auction would be placed that low, but the fiasco we saw with that 55C with Turner and Foley is proof that no reserve auctions are meaningless. Put in a bid, and if the guy backs out on honoring the no-reserve, send foleyjt a PM and tag team him. :D

Thanks, I knew that thread was around here somewhere!

I suppose a repower doesn't really make much sense, right? Seems like you would just end up at or above the price for the same model with diesels.

I wish there was a way to make this work, anyone have any whacky non-gas ideas?

Forget diesels and buy mine with 7.4 MerCruisers (see tech section where nobody could match my numbers with diesels). Just don't come around with $10K thinking you're going to take her home. :)

Well, my boyfriend has only one absolute criteria... "No gas boats!"

Something about being a volunteer firefighter and seeing the effects of a massive gas fire on the human body.

Just an FYI there are more fires on diesel boats than gas ones.

Scott,

Is your statement based on facts or opinion? It seems incredible.

Walt

A bad fire on a diesel boat will burn. The same fire on a gas boat can easily explode. A fuel leak on a diesel boat is usually just a mess, but on a gas boat it is dangerous. That being said, a properly maintained gas boat is nothing to be afraid of.

He's seen these on gasoline powered boat fires?

I too would like to see Scott's proof as to numbers of fires, but statistically speaking, fires on gas boats are extremely rare. Most are the result of poor maintenance and failure to follow basic safety precautions, especially during refueling. Stupid people die all the time on diesel powered boats.

You are right, fires on gas boats are indeed extremely rare. They tend to EXPLODE when things aren't just right! Deaths on diesel powered boats have nothing at all to due with the diesel fuel.

Let's not forget about the very real risk of carbon monixide poisoning from gasoline genset exhaust while peacefully sleeping.

VJM, your boyfriend is wise and you will indeed be safer on a diesel boat.

Deaths on diesel boats have nothing at all to do with the diesel fuel? How do you figure that? It may not be THE largest factor in the equation, but it is fuel for fire nonetheless.

Look at the number of explosions on gasoline powered boats vs the number of gasoline boats in operation, and I'm sure you will find an extremely low percentage of them ever explode or burn. I think the issue of CO poisoning has pretty well been beaten to death, so I won't get into that other than to say that is also a matter of maintenance, precautionary measures, and common sense.
