Hatteras Model
34' SPORT CRUISER (1961 - 1965)
Just picked up my perfect project, a 1963 34' Sport Cruiser.

Believe it or not all the hard work (fiberglass, epoxy and blister repair) is done I just need to put the jig saw puzzel back together.
This boat has been out of the water and under restoration for the past 15 years and through 2 owners.
Any one else with a 34 SC willing to offer some guidence I would greatly appreciate the input.
I have almost all of the original parts as well as new ones too. No power, but looking at Yanmar 315 or 420's
Interested in learning where I can locate a front visor or brim as I call it, located just above the bow windows.
Gotta have it to make the look just right.
Anyone who can direct me to the right supplier for that will really be a help.
Unsure if Sam's Marine carries it or not.
Look forward to speaking with anyone call me anytime at 561-333-7107 Boat's in Naples, FL.

315 YANMAR SHOULD PUSH THIS BOAT VERY WELL, 20-22K CRUISE AND 28-29K WOT. 420 WOULD BE A WASTE OF MONEY IN MY OPINOIN NOT TO MENTION THEY MAY NOT FIT WITHOUT RAISING SALON FLOOR.

I DONT THINK YOU WILL FIND A BROW. YOU MAY HAVE TO CUSTOM MAKE IT. THERE ARE ALOT OF THESE AROUND, 34SC AND 34C HAVE SAME BROW. WE HAVE A 67 34C, STUART FL. YOU ARE WELCOME TO COME BY AND COPY THE BROW.

PLEASE LOOK UP THE CLASSIC HATTERAS SITE AND POST YOURS ON IT. THERE IS A LINK ON SAMS HOME PAGE. PLEASE FORWARD SOME PHOTOS TO ME. ALSO IF YOU NEED NEW WINDOWS THERE IS A GREAT BUILDER IN SARASOTA THAT I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND. WATERWAY SYSTEMS. RON BUILT MY CENTER WINDOW AND WILL BE BUILDING THE 2 SIDE ONES, CHANGE FROM SLIDING TO FIXED.

Thanks for the info Steve.
The salon floor was already raised about 2-3 inches, which is bad for me
as I am 6'6....but I've been ducking my head all my life anyway...I saw Yachtworld has a 34 SC redone by Classic Carolina being brokerd by Mcgregor Yachts asking 195K, The Miss Shell has 420's in her and runs 40 knots!
That ought to keep the bottom clean!

I would love to see your 34 as I live in Wellington.
I will send you an email and see if we can set something up for next week if possible.
I cant get my photos to upload at the owner sites as I keep getting "too many pixel" error messages but I will keep trying.
Thanks again!!
I can be reached at 561-333-7107 or whj@adelphia.net

Gameplay, I also have a 34C and am located in Lighthouse Point. Did a conversion two years ago and went with Yanmar 260s. Boat runs very well and tops out at 22-23 knots with a solid comfortable cruise at 18. Most times I run at around 15-16.

The Boat In Nc Has Been For Sale For About 3yrs. Guess It Was A Little Over Done. Cant Put That Kind Of Money In Something Like That And Expect To Recover It. Ok If You Are Keeping It And Want A Completely Custome Boat With One Of The Most Solid Hulls Ever Built. I Wonder How That One Handled At Higher Speeds. These Boats Tend To Get Squirly Over 25knots. Keel Walking. Not Sure If Rudder Toe In Would Help Or Not. Going To Try It On Mine One Of These Days. , We Have 454's And Rarely Go Over 3200rpms 17-18k. Cant Afford It At 290/g.

Re: Too many pixels - There's a great free tool for saving/viewing/pixel management called "Irfanview". I heard about it from somebody on this site and use it to resize and to see what size the pictures will be at their "natural pixel dimensions" used here and on other websites. Just Google "irfanview" and download it from any site. You don't need the extra plug-ins also available for downloads. Don't worry, it's safe.

Re: 1963 34 Sc Visor Needed

Everyone,
Thanks for the replies,
I have been swamped with work and studying for and taking my FL Real Estate Brokers Exam.... I passed...Yee Ha!

This will be a busy Summer and I look forward to hearing more about your 34's, I have seen alot of photos of boats that have been rehab'd as well as alot of originals too.
I am in Naples this week to begin the logistics and work on getting the Gameplay ready for paint and mechanicals.
I have been logging all my parts and pieces and seem to be missing one special part...the visor...or brim as I call it....anyone know anyone who has the mold to one of these? I cant explain it exactly but it sits just above the bow windows and on the fwd edge of the fly bridge outside floor. Any help would be great..I need a brim............

I know the visior you talk about and think you will have to make it unless someone has one they took off. Try giving Tom Slane of Slane Marine a call great guy and will be able to point you into the right direction. The 34sc and 34C are not the same so you will have to find the SC one. I know of a few 34s that went to 420 HP the boats fly and handles the speed the 34s are one of the few older Hatts that don't get shakey. I feel that a pair of the cummins 370B are all you need if you have the need for speed but that just my opinion. Good luck and you can always send some pictures to Mark at www.vintagehatteras.com and he will make a page for you.

Thanks for the info on the visors being diffferent.
I am thinking I can build one that will look good and fit right too.
I have talked to Tom Slane, and you are all right he is a good guy. Very helpful
and informative, not looking to make a buck off eveyone he speaks with either. Which is refreshing these days.

I did manage to get a photo of the GamePlay up last night as Doug recommended Irfanview and it works great resizing photos.

As for the motors the previous owner had done a ton of work setting it up for Yanmars already, raised the salon floor and boxed in the stringers etc... so changing it would give me that extra bit of work I prefer not to deal with. I just need to decide if I want 315 0r 420's which is the didfference between getting to Marsh Harbor for Dinner in 1 day or for lunch the next day.....and about 10 G's too!!!
All the hard part, i.e. (fiberglass and epoxy stringer work) is done so it is just a matter of getting her back in the water ASAP.
However......it seems the heavens have opened up and it is Monsoon season here in SW FL already.
Man is it coming down.......
