Hatteras Model
53' EXTENDED DECKHOUSE (1983 - 1988)
12 Point Alarm System
For some institutional knowledge I thought I would pass this on.

I have been having a continuing problem with the 12 point alarm system going off intermittently for no apparent reasonall the alarms go off at the same time if the ignition keys are turned on and the center four if the ignition keys are turned off.

I have been pointed me repeatedly to the master ground fuse or some possible break in the ground loop. While close after extensive circuit testing I could never solve the problem. Quite by accident while I was checking circuits I observed a spark in what appears to be a relay on the circuit board on the same side of the circuit board as the master ground fuse. It is white with dimensions of 1" x 3/4" x 3/4". By gently jiggling this relay the relay makes contact to close. What is uncertain is whether the relay is bad or if the sdering of the relay has cracked.

You could contact Les Henderson who rebuilds the system monitor boards and knows the SM intimately. Google Hatteras Systems Monitor. He is based in Florida.

When I had that problem it was a bad contact on one of the temp sensors on the engine. I would check the sensor connections and monitor panel before you rebuild.

Where is the temperature sensor located on the engine. I have 8V71s. There is some type of sensor on the exhaust pipe. Is that the water temperature sensor?

Engine temps could be in a couple of locations. Look for one with two leads. One should be alarm sensor and the other for gauge. Bi-metal switch on shower head is exhaust temp. Same wiring.

Broken Soldering is common on these.

I have found an electronics technician who will actually test the 12 point alarm system circuit board and repair it. Can end up being a lot less expensive than the $1,800 Les Henderson wants to completely rehab the board. He fixed mine for$180.

Good man. Doesn't spend my money unless it is absolutely necessary. He has been doing my electronics repair for 13 years.

His name is:

That's about what I paid in 2005 when Flight Systems repaired mine. (apparently they don't work on these anymore).

$1800 is way out of line.
