Hi All,

As some of you know, we are living on board here in Lincoln Harbor Marina in Weehawken NJ. As our child Erin gets older we will be starting to look more closely at school districts in the area.

I know a little bit about Haverstraw/Stony Point but would love anymore info that can be provided about marina's where we can live on LI or the Hudson as well as the above mentioned one that would be a liveaboard possibility as well.

Thanks in advance,

Noel, Yukari, & Erin

Just an idea...

Check out the marinas in New Rochelle...Specifically, Wright Island Marina, which likes live-aboards and has many at the marina...

New Rochelle is close to the city, well-protected and close to mass transit as well...

Dont know about schools...PM me for more info...

Steve

We looked at a boat this Spring in West Haverstraw and found the marina there to be very very nice, great docks, about 30/40 minutes outside of the city...

Has always been a nice marina ... and the water is brackish (at least it used to be), so less salt in all of the machinery can't hurt either.
Also consider Mamaroneck, Port Washington and Long beach.

Just a thought - have you considered the downtown Liberty Landing Marina? I don't know anything about their liveaboard situation or schools (maybe Jersey City, NJ?), but it's located in Liberty Landing Park just a 5 minute ferry ride to the middle of Manhattan and a 1 minute ferry ride to Jersey City, NJ. Loads of free parking, gated security, huge park, etc. It's the only downtown marina I know of that has nice, calm water, instead of the usual ferry wake roll. You could come home for lunch!

What about Atlantic Highlands area, you could commute on the ferry. I do not know if they allow liveaboards or winter dockage in that area, though. Navesink or Shrewsbury Rivers also could work......................Pat

We stayed at Lincoln harber for 3 nights when I bought my boat in 2004. My wife got seasick from bouncing around so much and all the noise of the docks rocking against the steel pilings etc. I don't know how anybody could stand staying there for more than a week. Everybody in the area told me to stay at Liberty Landing but I didn't listen. Anywhere you choose will be an improvement. Ron

Ron,

Guess where we live aboard right now. Yes we rock, but Newport is much worse unless you are on the sea wall inside. As for Liberty, great place unless you miss the water taxi then through the boatyard one must walk.... And when we lived there, we drove in and out through the ghetto. Access is good from 6 am to 8:30 pm weekdays.

That rules out Liberty. And you just stay aboard there in the winter.

Noel

But keep the info coming, i will do some more research and post all the results in a file that can be updated as needed for anyone else who needs it as well.

We stayed at Haverstraw for two nights on our trip north from Florida. Very big marina but would try to stay on South side since pool is a forever walk from the North. Great restaurant about two miles away. Bad news is dock hands don't have a clue and put us on top of a gravel pile at low tide with a lot of that terrible grinding sounds. Good news is manager gathered a cast of thousands to help us into the too small of a haulout to check the props (just got polished no damaged) and covered all dockage fees. Seemed to be a friendly family place.
