Anyone have any experience with low dollar rental cars out of FLL?

I have everything taken care of except a rental car for my visit to FLIBS in a couple of weeks. I’m seeing LOTS of cars for $8-10 per day through Orbitz, but I subscribe to the, if it’s too good to be true view.

I like saving money as much as the next person, but I don’t like last minute surprises.

I picked up a 2024 Honda Sedan with a Sunpass on Turo for $40 a day. When are headed down?

Car rentals in FLL can be unpredictable. You visit for 3 days and end up paying $483.76 for the car rental. Next visit is 11 days and the car rental is $129.94 total.

Flying in on 10/30 and back on 11/6. I’ve been tied up today but will call the corporate number associated with these $10 per day cars and see if there’s a catch I’m not reading in their fine print.

Been there, done that.

I booked a car through Allegiant when I flew to Sanford a few weeks ago and had a change in plan. Car was through Alamo, and they said they couldn’t modify the agreement until I was there in person since I booked it through the airline.

I looked at rates from scratch for a one way rental from Sanford with a return in Jacksonville, and it was around $800 for three additional days. When I showed up at the counter, it ended up adding $180 to what I had already paid. Seems like it was around $40 per day.

Used to get some killer weekend deals through Enterprise in Clearwater, but those too varied by date.

Decided to give it a shot and booked an $11 per day mid-size and opted for the $10 per day insurance to close that particular loophole. Hopefully it’ll be as advertised. We’ll see.

Be sure you have and can prove insurance for your rental thru your own car insurance. We rented at a bargain place (off airport) in FLL and had the car insurance app on my phone, and we proved the adequate insurance(25,000 I think, for rental car accident) ,the couple ahead of could not and they were forced to take the rental company's insurance which was like 100 / day. I would have walked but they did not. Also one person in the car rental place "conveniently" spoke very little english and only when she wanted to. All in all it was a Third World experience and I would not do it again.........

I usually don’t buy the insurance, but there was something in the fine print that it “may be” more expensive at the time of pickup and “may be required”.

That’s why I headed that part off at the pass.

Thought I would give an update after picking up the car at around 8:30PM yesterday. One word… fustercluck.

I waited an hour for their shuttle. They played games with mandatory insurance add on’s. This despite the fact I purchased the daily insurance. I had already reached the point where I suggested he creatively park the car, then reality sat in that it was approaching 9PM and miles away from the airport. With that, I told him to write it up and prepare for a dispute with my bank. I’m sure it would have sounded more threatening if I was able to say it in Spanish.

To this point, I’ve received a refund for the insurance via Orbitz where I rented the car. They noted the situation.

I got on the corporate website of Zezgo, who is the rental company. The only contact option was via email. I have yet to receive a reply, but I outlined coming attractions should they not choose to make things right.

While I’m currently paying significantly more than they verified when I called the FLL location the day before, it’s still a very low mileage car that’s still significantly cheaper than the big name outfit. It’s just the principle of the thing at this point.

We are about to be wheels up enroute. I will let you know how our Turo works out. ;)

I got an incoherent reply to my email today with them asking a question that made zero sense.

I replied that my message couldn’t have been more clear as to what my complaint was and what I intended to do if they didn’t make things right.

No doubt English is not their primary language. We’ll see what happens. Yell at me when you get settled.
