Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
I need to build an insulated fish box for a buddy. Any sugestions? I've seen fiberglass panels laminated over insulation, seems like the right direction. ANy sugestions, Thanks Bill

Be careful on your choice of materials. A guy at the place next to the boatyard built a small boat (really small, like two feet, actually intended as a table top ice bucket for cocktail shrimp) from Home Depot foam board and fiberglass. The resin dissolved the foam. Since it was tiny I think he ended up using epoxy rather than buying compatible foam.

That's my entire knowledge of the subject. Hope it helps.

make sure you use a foam that will not absorb moisture. If it gets wet it will negate the insulating properties get moldy and smell.

Fish box need more info is it built in, removable or sit on deck how big?

tuff R insulation board .closed cell foam, compatable with epoxy or resion. high "R" value, will not absorb water. check local lowes or homedepot. fiberbrite fiberglass panel with white color mixed in. i get it from harbor sales in baltimore.they deliver here to southeren md so maybe they deliver your way too. you glue the fiberbrite to the insulation board and filet the corners with thickened resion/epoxy or even well done calk depending on the level of finish desirered.for a stronger job i lay the f/b into a wet out fiberglass/resion strip at the corners. put the bottom in after the sides. the fiberbrite must be sanded at bonding areas. just one way to do it.

The box is a drop in. M budd paid a fiberglass gu to cut in hatchs and the make drop in insulated boxs for his Blackfin. Gus finished the hatchs and bailed with the rest of his money. He's a charter boat so not a rich person. Just tring to help him out. Thanks Bill

You want a lip of some sorts so all the nasty stuff stays out of the bilge.

I have two ideas for you one would be doing it out of coosa board the other is just make the mold which really isn't as hard as it looks. If your handy somewhat skilled you can do it. Nice thing is you pop it and have a nice finished piece!
