I am restoring a 46 ft SF and wonder why they did not use any insulation. It seems to me there would be several advantages: Easier to heat/cool, sound deadening and reducing condensation. This past winter while working on the boat I noticed the heated moist air in the boat would condensate on the inside of the fiberglass hull. I was trying to varnish and had to use a dehumidifier to get rid of the moisture.

I was considering some foam sheeting in the ceiling and along the cabin sides. I would think you would want something with a reasonable fire resistant rating.

Has anybody tried this? Is it used in newer boats? Is there something I am missing?

Might work depending on the material but seems like it would be an additional substance to absorb moisture/rot and get in the way of service/maintanance. It would be worth looking at what new boats do - although just because a "new" boat has something, it doesn't mean it's a good idea for the long term.
