Could you comment on the threads regarding ethanol in gas now and everyone ripping out their old tanks due to the breakdown in the resin. I'm looking at buying your model, 1964 41 DC with gas next week. Really concerned now. My last boat was a 41 Hatt with DD's, not gas. Please let me know if you've been affected, or if I should be worried. What year is your 41?? Thanks.

Prior to purchasing my boat I also had concerns about the fuel tanks. I had the surveyor include the fuel tank condition in his report.

He had the tanks inspected by a company that specilized in polishing fuel and cleaning the sludge from old tanks. The tanks are fiberglass and proved to be in servicable condition.

Not sure I would have purchased my boat if she needed new tanks, Quite a job to install new ones!

My boat is a 1967 Twin Cabin with 6V53 DD.

Gia Marie: Notice your bow pulpit looks quite nice from what I can see. Is that new or orginal. If original, is it fiberlas covered wood (as my '72 is) or is it solid fiberglas?

spartonboat1: The pulpit is not original, it was installed prior to my purchase, I think it came from Buttler Marine?. It is solid fiberglass, and I feel improves the look of the boat.

what a beatuifl boat. i am restoring a 1967 twin. but your boat is by far the best looking 41 twin cabin i have seen on the net. what color is it. it looks like a cream and brown. what brand of paint? also who built the hard top? anyway nice job, you must be very proud. thanks in advance. tom

Thanks for the complement, my restoration project began with some touch up paint work and what I thought would be a few mechanical updates. Two years later and still going strong has seen me replace all the topside decks (removing the balsa), completely repaint the boat, replace the aft enclosure, replace the windows and frames on the command bridge & salon, install new 110 & 12 volt panels, Generator, and all plumbing.

Presently we are installing Teak & Holly sole throughout the boat. I can see this project taking three more years but that’s ok, I really do enjoy working on a boat.

To answer your paint question the paint is Algrip color: old Hatteras white Alt # 2 part # F8183, this was the paint used by Hatteras during production of my boat (or so I have been told by Hatteras).

The original aft enclosure was in pretty rough shape and it appeared to be designed for the southern climate. As my home port is up state NY. I needed something a bit more weather proof. So I removed it and designed and installed a new enclosure that suited the sometimes cold climate of NY. The new enclosure is like a second salon with insulated walls, air, and heat.
